Kenyan Cuisine

     This article is about Kenya cuisine. Kenya is an African country in Eastern Africa. One side of Kenya is bound to the Indian ocean. Kenya has a varied landscape like Savannah, Lakeland, mountain rangers and rift valleys. Apart from everything, Kenya also has a unique cuisine which most of us can also enjoy. 
     Kenyan cuisine can be explained as a lot of meat, a lot of carbs and a bit of vegetable. 


Chapati

    The most commonly eaten breakfast in Kenya is Chapati and Chai tea. Chapati is originally an Indian food, but as the Indian influence is there in Kenya now, Chapati has become one of the famous breakfasts in Kenya. Chapatis are made using wheat flour and water they also add some oil, then fry both sides on a hot plate. They also add a fried egg in the middle of the Chapati to make it a complete breakfast. Chai tea is simply made using tea leaves, milk, water, and sugar.

    As mentioned in the article before, Kenyans eat a lot of meat. They usually eat beef, mutton, chicken and turkey. They also eat some bizarre food like a cow head. Meat from the cow head is separated carefully and boiled for about three hours. Cooked meat is eaten by adding a bit of salt. 


Nyama Choma

     One of the famous foods in Kenya cuisine is called Nyama Choma. Nyama Choma, (roasted meat) is prepared by cutting the meat into pieces then baking and finishing them in the grill. Meat usually is seasoned with salt only.

 Ugali

     Another famous staple in Kenya is Ugali. Ugali is made by adding cornflour into the boiling water. Then the mixture is stirred firmly until it gets an even texture. Mutura is a type of sausage which is made using organ meat. Organ meats are cut into small pieces and boiled. Boiled meat is then mixed with onions, herbs, and spices. Then the mixture is filled into uncooked intestines and grilled over the hot charcoal.
      Cassava is vastly used in Kenya as it can be grown in the harshest conditions. First, cassava is cut and boiled. After that, the boiled cassava is mixed with grated coconut and crushed cassava leaves and cooked again. 
       Kinolo is one of the village foods in Kenya. It is made using ripe Bananas. Bananas are mashed using a pestle and a mortar. Then the mashed bananas are mixed with maize flour. Finally, the mixture is cooked over the fire after wrapping in banana leaves. 


Githeri

     Githeri, another food that is commonly eaten in Kenya and is unique to Kenyan cuisine. It is a mixture of boiled corn and beans with onions, tomatoes, and salt. Githeri usually served with boiled cabbage. Mandazi is a type of deep-fried bread. Wheat flour is mixed with water and sugar to make a dough, and the dough is cut into pieces and deep-fried to make Mandazi.

      Maasai is one of the tribes in Kenya. They have different cuisine altogether. Maasai people drink blood from cows and eat fresh row meat also. That may sound disturbing, but it is their culture which they have maintained for years. Kenyan cuisine has numerous varieties compared to cuisines around the world.
